Many people think instant noodle is for college students, but that's not exactly true. The instant noodle was created after World War II by an inventor named Momofuku Ando. During the food shortage period, people received wheat flour to make bread to fill their hunger. But Ando refused to eat those white boring bread, he thought Japanese ramen noodle is more marvelously delicious, and more importantly, it was long presented as one of the main Japanese custom food. He spent at least a year to preserve the noodles but also finding a way to keep its robust taste.

At last, he finally got the result squared away by using the flash frying noodle method.

Ando quickly marketed the first package of precooked instant noodles, the first flavor he attempted to make was chicken ramen, and it was considered a luxury item with a price of 35yen, which sadly was about six times more expensive than the traditional udon and soba noodles at the time, and honestly..., nobody cares if that's the case.

Fortunately in 1971, the instant noodle’s expensive packaging was solved by waterproof polystyrene container. The price immediately dropped, and instant noodles boomed with 40 billion units sold in every where each year.

Here is a cool and simple documentary showing how instant noodle came to life.

Although we can’t say without "War" there wouldn't have been instant noodles, but surely it saved many young generations who couldn’t or didn't have the time to afford a meal, especially when finals approached....
