Coco is only 13 years old, but a brave fire brigade dog of 10 years being assigned as one of the firefighter members in Kyoto, and it’s a “she!”

Her owner is Murata, he always wanted to have a dog, so his sons gave him CoCo, and they have stuck together like buddies since then.

The moment when Coco got scouted to become one of the Kyoto’s firefighter members, was the day when she attended the firefighter’s walking parade in ten years ago.

She wears a piece of notice paper on her body nearly everyday to tell everyone “hinoyoujin (火の用心),” which means “watch out for fire”, the special phrase was typically used in the earlier periods when firefighters were on duty to troll around the city to warn citizens of fire. They carry a wooden clapper to hit and make small attentional noises, then shout out “hinoyoujin.”

We thank CoCo for protecting Kyoto with her best little effort as she can, and hope she lives happily with her buddy owner.
