While many of us might still feel like 2017 is just getting started, we're already half way into January, and in Japan, preparations for Valentine's Day are gradually taking momentum. But as cute chocolate making kits for lovestruck guys and girls make their way into stores, Tokyo's historic event venue Meguro Gajoen will be offering elegant desserts with a traditional Japanese touch for the romantic holiday.

Prepared by the pastry chefs at Maison G Tokyo are two new Valentine's Day sweets — Temari Chocolates and the Classic Chocolat.

Temari is a traditional craft that has existed in Japan for centuries, and at Maison G Tokyo, the threads that are typically used to create them have been replaced with luxurious layers of chocolate.

The temari chocolates come in a set of two. The larger ball is made of hazelnut crumble covered in ganache cream, while the smaller one is made of matcha ganache covered in a layer of ganache cream infused with the fragrance of sakura. The sakura temari even contains salt-picked sakura inside, and those eating the chocolates can enjoy the variations in texture of both temari balls, as well as the edible base on which they're placed.

Those looking for a more simple dessert can also get the Classic Chocolat, a chocolate cake that's rich in cacao flavor.

Only five sets of the Temari Chocolates will be made per day, each available for 2,700 yen (US$24). The Classic Chocolat will be sold for 2,200 yen (US$19).

These new sweets will only be available for a limited time from February 1st until February 14th at Maison G Tokyo in Meguro Gajoen. They'll make romantic gifts for anyone looking to make a loved one happy on Valentine's Day.
