Of course, Japan is famous for its high speed, high class bullet trains, but if you don't mind travelling at a slower pace there are some great deals to be found. One such deal is the Seishun 18 Kippu - a JR ticket which is released three times a year and offers five days of unlimited travel on local and rapid trains across the entire JR network, working out at just 2370 yen per day! Just how far can you get during one of those five days? Lisa and Emma decided to find out; with a goal destination of Kobe, they set of bright and early from Shinjuku station... Just present your ticket to the staff at the manned ticket barrier and they will stamp your ticket with the date of usage and the name of the starting station - this actually makes for a nice souvenir of your travels. Heading along the Tokaido line, the girls' make a brief stop in the seaside city of Atami, in Shizuoka prefecture. Atami is a popular destination during the summer months, with attractive beaches as well as various shopping arcades and restaurants. YouTube After a couple more train changes and rest stops, they girls reach their final destination of Kobe - more than 500km from their starting point in Shinjuku - at 9:30pm. Arriving in Kobe at night means being able to fully appreciate the bright lights of the harbour district, with its breathtaking vistas across the water. And the journey has only just begun - with four more days of train travel remaining, there is plenty more opportunity for exploration and adventure across the extensive JR railway network!
