Tokyo Comic Con 2017 Cosplay Roundup

For the last three days, the Makuhari Messe convention center in a suburb of Tokyo was swept by a magnificent maelstrom of creativity and enthusiasm known as Tokyo Comic Con 2017. The energy was generated in large part by the participation of fans who turned out to cosplay their favorite American comics and cartoon characters, superheroes, and characters from science fiction, fantasy movies and series. As with anime and manga conventions, they were also joined in cosplaying by promotional models stationed at booths throughout the venue.

Let's take a look at the colorful cast of characters we had the good fortune to meet as we covered the event...

With Star Wars: The Last Jedi opening this month, cosplayers like these X-Wing pilots were in full force.

However, the two big comic empires, Marvel and DC, were the strongest presence.

There were many familiar faces, Batman, Cyborg, Iron Man...

...and Spidey. Speaking of which, ever since Captain America: Civil War, Spidey cosplayers can't seem to get enough of Cap's shield.

Even Deadpool wants it...

Star Lord and Baby Groot dropped in, along with the other cast of Guardians of the Galaxy (no Rocket or Drax, to our disappointment)

In addition to cosplayers, idols mingled with convention attendees. Here are three members of Nyorobotics, a robot idol unit from Osaka who have been active since 2009.

And of course, in Japan, it's expected to find some anime cosplay too. Here is San and Ashitaka (holding a Kodama) from Princess Mononoke.
