Japanese creative design brand Mocolle (whose official brand concept is "Wouldn't it be nice if this existed?") often makes clothes and home furnishings based on fantasies drawn from popular culture or artwork on social media. Two of their biggest successes originated as crowdfunding efforts, and went on to sell big in the form of a shirt that turns your breasts into bulging hamster cheeks, and Japanese shrine maiden lounge-wear. Their latest release is no different, as their giant mackerel pillow case for cuddling and storage smashed a crowd funding goal and is now available for order.

Mackerel is a favorite and cornerstone of a lot of Japanese diets, and the simple idea by this giant fish pillow case inspired by crafts designer korotoro's design is to give mackerel lovers the opportunity to live out their dreams of having a mackerel roommate. Given the response to the crowd funding campaign, it seems that's a very popular dream! Or people just like wacky things.

Anyway, the idea is that the 180cm (5'9) long mackerel case can not only store pillows, but clothing not currently being used to create a large and useful cuddle buddy, and amusing centerpiece for conversation when visitors stop by or check you out on social media.

Although since it's sort of shaped like a surfboard and stores tons of goods (the mouth opens via fastener as does the stomach), why not take it to the beach to let it get a little closer to the water?

You can mainly just use it as an excuse to lounge around at home with a humongous mackerel, though.

While it's currently out of stock, the Giant Mackerel Pillow Case is sold within Japan on bookstore and oddity shop Village Vanguard's online shop in Japan. It's currently awaiting more supplies, and while Village Vanguard only ships within Japan, many of their popular items end up on Amazon or Rakuten.
