Upon entering the exhibition you have to prove you are a true Warrior of Light, by taking part in an interactive battle on an airship. Once the monster is defeated, you can enter the World of Final Fantasy…

An audio guide gives in depth information and low level soundtracks from the game will transport you straight back into these classic games. The exhibition first details the history of the series and discusses the pioneering leaps they made in story and graphics that had a massive impact on the gaming industry. A section is dedicated to each main title starting right at the beginning of the story from Final Fantasy 1.

Then there are special exhibits including replicas of props and famous scenes, as well as concept art, and information on the painstaking efforts the developers put into each installation. The theme of the exhibition is ‘farewell stories’, emphasising the most memorable and tragic stories of loss, like this stunning recreation of Aerith’s Church from FF7.

There are a lot of cool touches that make the exhibition more interactive like the chance to see your name in the end credits of a Final Fantasy game. You are also given your own personal playlist based off the music you listened to while you wandered around.

No event in Japan is complete without original goods. The merchandise shop is located at the end of the exhibition with more Moogle and Chocobo emblazoned goods than you can shake a magic staff at.

The exhibition has taken over Mori Tower’s Sun Café, for a range of elaborate Final Fantasy themed dishes including various mains, desserts and special drinks. The crystal crepe is pretty fantastical, while the Chocobo omelette rice is so adorable that sticking your fork in it feels too close to murder. There’s also a few items that can top up your HP if needed…

The exhibition and cafe are on the 52nd floor, so you can appreciate the view while chomping down on your Gysahl Greens.
