Watch out, Roppongi, the monster girls have invaded!
From Kaiju to Kaiju Girls
Japan's obsession with kaiju (giant monsters) is all too famous, with Godzilla, Mothra, Gamera and other creatures seared into our collective imaginations through tokusatsu films that were exported and localized throughout the world. Less popular abroad yet equally famous are Japanese TV's kaiju from the tokusatsu series Ultraman, Tsuburaya Productions' flagship series which has existed in various incarnations since the 1960s and continues to the present day. Alien Baltan, Red King, Zetton, King Joe, Eleking, Mefilas, Dada, Windom, Gomora, and the friendly Pigmon, to name a few. These monsters have earned a special place in the hearts of many Japanese who grew up watching them on TV and playing with the action figures when they were kids.
The Ultra Kaiju Humanization Project (ウルトラ怪獣擬人化計画) is a multi-media mix project which started out in 2013 with illustrators portraying the kaiju of the Ultraman series reborn as cute girls. The project added figures, novels, comic books, and in 2016, a gag web anime called Kaiju Musume (Kaiju Girls), now in its second season, featuring the antics of a team of girls who have the ability to summon the spirits of kaiju. And now, in its latest offshoot, the Ultra Kaiju Humanization Project has created an "entertainment restaurant" in Tokyo's popular nightlife district of Roppongi!

Kaiju Musume 6
Kaiju Musume 6, which celebrates its grand opening today, is probably going to become a popular destination for both locals and international visitors.
You don't need to know about the project or the anime to appreciate this fun, new theme-based restaurant. Fans of the original Ultraman series will love the attention to detail in the interior design and the Ultra kaiju-themed menu, and everyone can appreciate the Kaiju Girls, a cast of relatively famous cosplayers and models dressed in costumes by illustrator Utomaru (whose art is also featured prominently on the walls). Not only do they serve you food and drinks but they also dance during a special show time in which you can cheer and interact with them from your table. There are also official Tsuburaya kaiju goods as well as Kaiju Musume 6 originals for sale.
