Starbucks Japan have already rolled out their Sakura Series drinks range which means, never mind the freezing temperatures that continue here in Tokyo, spring is officially here! They heard we like sakura so they gave us the cherry blossom frappucino, the cherry blossom latte, the cherry blossom tea, then they turned around and blessed us with an edible range of cherry blossom items too.

First is the Sakura Donut. Starbucks Japan have imagined what a cherry blossom would look and taste like in donut form so that you don’t have to. The classic light pink flora is evoked in the coating which is also sprinkled with salted sakura petals.

Next in their line-up is the very photogenic Sakura Chiffon Cake. This moist and springy dessert has powdered sakura petals mixed in the cake, and is topped with a salted cherry blossom to offset the super sweetness of the icing. It’s this floral crowning glory that really makes the cake into a treat for spring.

For those who are sick of sakura’s hype before the season has even started, there’s another seasonal dessert available. Although still giving a nod to the pink theme, the Strawberry Cheesecake American Scone doesn’t have any cherry blossom flavouring at all. It contains cream cheese, strawberry fillings, freeze dried strawberries and it has a crunchy texture. The combo of white, pink and red is reminiscent of spring.

So if you're not convinced by sakura flavour, at least there's one seasonal item for spring on the menu that you can enjoy as cherry blossom viewing season gets dangerously close.
