Probably Japan’s most famous theme park, it’s situated at the foot of Mount Fuji in Yamanashi prefecture and offers amazing views of the iconic peak from its tallest rides. The park has risen to worldwide fame among roller coaster enthusiasts over the years due to several record breaking rides being opened. When the Fujiyama coaster opened in 1996 it was the world’s tallest rollercoaster, and Dodonpa opened in 2001 as the world’s fastest rollercoaster. They have since been overtaken by new records but still hold impressive stead in the world rankings. Takabisha opened in 2011 with a heart-stopping 121 degree freefall which still holds the record for the steepest coaster in the world. Fuji Q Highland patrons can also enjoy a ‘4th dimension’ roller coaster, and the longest walk-through house of horrors in the world. After the entrance fee's abolition, visitors will be able to wander into the park and check it out without paying a penny and just shell out for a couple of rides that take their fancy. But sadly, the change in entrance fee will not reduce the price of the free pass which allows unlimited rides of most of the attractions. It’s unclear how many people would travel to the remote destination just to hang out in the park, but it will definitely benefit parents tagging along, or the ride-averse that just want to watch their friends suffer on a 121 degree drop without having to pay money for the privilege.
